Spend your day with a guide exploring the enchanting temples and ancient crafts of this stunning mountain city. The day’s activities can be tailored to your preferences, but typically include visits to the Royal Palace Museum, Wat Xieng Thong, and the Water Melon Stupa in the morning. Afterward, you’ll be returned to your hotel or taken to a local restaurant for lunch (at your own expense).
In the afternoon, head south to the Mekong River to visit the textile and weaving villages of Xangkhong and Xienglek. Here, you’ll witness their unique dyeing process using bark from the mulberry tree. After returning to town, visit Wat Mai and the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre, a museum dedicated to showcasing the diverse ethnic groups of Laos. The exhibits feature photographs, informative text, and traditional clothing, making it an insightful stop.
As evening approaches, you can conclude the day with a walk up to the sacred Phu Si temple for a spectacular sunset over the town. Alternatively, explore the smaller, often-overlooked temples while monks perform their evening prayers.
Please note that the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre is closed on Mondays; your guide will suggest alternative options if needed.
